Lord Barnard, proprietor of Raby Estates (pictured right with Jac Wubben) accepted the orchid on behalf on Raby Castle saying: “it is a great privilege to have such a beautiful orchid named after Raby Castle, and it is very fitting on this, the 10th anniversary of the Orchid Show.” Dr. Richard Warren, co-organiser of the show went on to thank Lord Barnard for his support and praised the development of the show which has steadily grown in to one of the most successful and important orchid shows in the region.
The Orchid Show is open from Saturday 1st to Monday 3rd May, 11am – 5pm, with a special show focus on ‘Mysterious East: Land of a 1000 Orchids.’ Over 2,500 orchids are on display and sale ranging from the Phalaenopsis, to the more exotic Vandas’ and Brassia hybrid varieties. Visitors have the opportunity to talk to the experts, attend lectures and demonstrations for advice on how to make the most of their orchids.
The North East of England and Darlington Orchid Societies will both be in attendance. Jac Wubben, one of Europe’s leading Orchid growers has once again chosen Raby as the only show he will exhibit at in the north of England this year. Jac will be carefully transporting a range of over 75 different species and hybrids from Holland from among the hundreds of plants in his catalogue of 1500 types.
