The surrounding farm and moorland is within
an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the North Pennines. Located
in idyllic positions where tranquility is assured, they are ideal
for countryside lovers or simply for those who prefer the peace
and quiet of Teesdale.

activities, such as walking, cycling and bird watching, and for
visiting local historic attractions, such as Bowes Museum, Durham
City, as well as Raby Castle.

High Force
Waterfall and Picnic Area
The highest waterfall in England.
Cauldron Snout
Cascade
A 200 foot cascade down dolerite steps with plant species which
have probably survived since the last Ice Age, notably the blue
gentian.
Bowlees
Visitor Centre & Picnic Area
Situated in an old chapel where you can find out about the special
wildlife and landscape of Teesdale, whilst providing an excellent
base for exploring the upper dale. There is also a nature trail.
Barnard
Castle and The
Bowes Museum
In this historic market town you can visit The Bowes Museum which
displays European decorative arts, paintings, costume, ceramics
and musical instruments.
The
North Pennines
Enjoy remote moors, welcoming villages, waterfalls, reservoirs and
riverside walks.
Alston
Railway Station
The South Tynedale Railway is based here, you can buy your ticket
at the restored Victorian Station and take a leisurely ride through
the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne Valley.
Beamish
Open Air Museum
Voted Living Museum of the Year for 2002, experience a vivid recreation
of life in the North of England in early 1800s and 1900s with costumed
staff to guide you through recreated streets, a coal mine, farm,
old village school, and a railway station.
Gibson's Cave
This is primarily a waterfall, Summerhill Force, but the undercutting
has been so severe that it resembles a cave. It is well worth a
visit and the wooded valley is pretty and full of small birds.

The Pennine Way is close by and High Cup Nick, which is a well known
beauty spot on the Pennine Escarpment is within a day's walk.

This 73 mile Roman Wall has many forts situated in spectacular countryside,
such as Vindolanda,

and Birdoswald
Roman sites.
Northumberland
Stretching
from Hadrian's Wall to the Scottish Borders and once fought over
by the Border Rievers, this is now a region of spectacular castles,
stunning coastline, historic battle sites and strong Christian Heritage.
Newcastle
Upon Tyne
The "party town of the north" is where you can see the
new Millennium Bridge, Baltic Art Centre and enjoy shopping in the
Gateshead Metro centre.
The Lake District
Britain's largest National Park, with mountainous landscapes and
spectacular lakes - a haven for hill walking and water activities.
Many other places of historic and outstanding landscape beauty
are all within just one and a half hours driving distance.
