Visiting the Castle
Raby Castle is open to the public from 24th March until 30th September 2018.
Raby is without doubt one of the most impressive intact castles in the North of England. Built in the 14th century by the powerful Nevill family, it has a long history. Home to Cecily Nevill, mother of two kings of England, it was also the scene of the plotting of the Rising of the North and a Parliamentary stronghold during the Civil War.
Today, Raby is the seat of Lord and Lady Barnard and the Vane family.
Raby Castle is open for you to enjoy at your own pace. Our friendly and knowledgeable stewards give guided tours twice each day, sharing stories and details of Rabys fascinating history, and showcasing the castles fabulous art collection and sumptuous interiors.
Spaces are on a first come, first served basis, and our admissions staff will advise of tour times on the day of your visit.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our 200 acres of parkland although they must be kept on leads for the protection of our large herds of red and fallow deer. Please note, only assistance dogs are allowed inside the Castle and Walled Gardens.
