Archery Competition

Raby Park

Sun 24th Jun 2018

10:00am to 3:00pm

Raby Castle provides the perfect backdrop for the Wand World Championship Shoot organised by local Archery Club, the Archers of the Tees.

The competition is by invitation but will provide an exciting spectator sport!

The Morning Shoot:

Archers will shoot a series of three arrow ends at the wand targets, from alternating distances of 20yrds, 30yrds, 40yrds & 50yrds.

The Afternoon Shoot:

Archers will shoot the same as the morning format, but this is the knock out stage; three consecutive misses and you are out of the competition. This will continue until only two archers remain. If both archers can take the pressure and hold their nerve at this point, we then go to sudden death where the first to miss is out.

The winner, decided by skill, steel and nerve in the afternoon knock-out competition - will be named THE WORLD WAND CHAMPION!

Come and see our fully refurbished tearooms, browse our new look gift shop and enjoy the woodland play area, all of which are free of charge for visitors. The tearooms are open from 9am for hot drinks, snacks, lunches and afternoon teas.

Buy a ticket to visit our walled gardens and to explore the 200-acre deer park. Tickets are also available to include entry to the historic castle, which has been host to knights, royalty and aristocracy through the ages.

There’s plenty to see including horse-drawn coaches and carriages from days gone by and fascinating collections of art and antiques.

Outdoor Theatre: Romeo and Juliet

Raby Castle

Sat 4th Aug 2018

6:30pm to 8:30pm

The HandleBards are the world’s first cycling theatre company. Before touring their “seriously silly” production of Romeo and Juliet around the world, they pedalled it 1500 miles around the UK by bicycle, with all the necessary set, props and costume in tow. Now, the show is back by popular demand - and, in usual HandleBards style, you can expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.

Join the HandleBards’ all-female troupe in the beautiful gardens of Raby Castle for Romeo and Juliet as you’ve never seen it before!

And what’s the play about? Well - Romeo and Juliet fall in love, despite the fact that both their families hate each other. Hilarity ensues… Well, sort of.

The performance takes place in the open-air. Please dress fo the wetaher and bring a low-backed chair, rug or cushions and a picnic if you'd like.

A range of hot, cold and alcoholic beverages, as well as food, will be available from the Raby Tearooms and kiosk, throughout the performance.

Ticket Prices:

  • Early bird offer (available until 4th June) £12
  • Standard Advance Ticket £15
  • On-the-day Ticket £17

Under 16's are free of charge.

Outdoor Theatre: Twelfth Night

Raby Castle Walled Garden

Fri 10th Aug 2018

6:30pm to 8:30pm

The world’s first cycling theatre company, The HandleBards, pedal from venue to venue with all the set, props and costume necessary to perform environmentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe.

Join their all-male troupe in the beautiful gardens at Raby Castle for a bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ like none other. In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.

And what’s the play about? Well - Duke Orsino is in love with Lady Olivia, but she won’t have anything to do with suitors. Viola is shipwrecked and believes her twin brother Sebastian to be dead. Meanwhile, a bunch of Olivia’s servants plot to make a fool out of her pompous Butler, Malvolio. There’s drunkenness, frivolity and cross-dressing a plenty.

The performance takes place in the open-air. Please dress fo the weather and bring a low-backed chair, rug or cushions and a picnic if you'd like.
