Deer Park Walk

Raby Castle

Mon 10th Sep 2018

10:00am to 12:00pm

Join our Head Gamekeeper for a morning walk through the 200 acre deer park surrounding Raby Castle to find out more about our herds of stunning deer, their behaviour throughout the seasons and their management.

Raby Park is home to two species of deer: Red deer, the largest British wild land mammal, and the smaller fallow deer. Both herds include the descendants of deer preserved in this area since Norman times.

The red deer change their behaviour through the seasons as the male (stag) and the female (hind) separate during the summer, only to re-join for the mating season, or 'rut', in autumn. Learn all about this time of year and how the wildlife in Raby Park changes throughout the seasons.

Arrive early and enjoy brunch in our fully refurbished tearooms or stay for lunch after you’ve worked up an appetite on your walk. The tearooms are open daily from 9am for ice creams, drinks, snacks, lunches and afternoon teas

Ticket Price:

£9.50 per person

Tickets include guided walk and entry to the Walled Gardens and Deer Park and hot or cold drink on arrival.

For Information:

The tour involves walking across occasionally rough and grassy terrain, please wear sturdy outdoor footwear and dress appropriate for the weather. Please bring your own binoculars if you have them. Photography is welcome, but no tripods please. Please leave dogs at home.
