Raby Castle in the Sunshine

Raby Castle News

Come and see the changes at Raby Castle this spring

We always look forward to opening the gates for a new season at Raby Castle, but this year is going to be extra special.

Over the winter, we have been making some changes to the castle and grounds which we hope will make it an even better place to visit in 2018.

Our focus has been on delivering the best possible experience for all our visitors, whether they’re here for a full day out or just calling in for a coffee with friends.

We re-open for the new season on Saturday 24th March and you’ll notice quite a few improvements when you come and visit.

New ticket office

The first thing you will notice is that the ticket booth on the driveway has gone. Tickets can now be purchased near the entrance to the Walled Gardens. This means you can access the Tearooms, Woodland Play Area and Gift Shop completely free of charge, so if you want to come for lunch or a slice of cake with some friends, you can do so without paying admission.

Refurbishment

Our Tearooms and Gift Shop have both had a facelift during the winter break. We’ve been careful to honour the history of these buildings, which were formerly the stable block, and you can still see all the old features from when they were originally built.

New features

To complement the stable block, our new ticket office is in a horse box-style trailer, and a similar trailer also houses a new take-away stand offering drinks and snacks. You can enjoy these in the new outdoor covered seating area in front of the stable block. The perfect place for a glass of wine in the sun or coffee and cake before a walk with the dog.

The Gift shop will be offering a new garden section this year with beautiful Spring plants to brighten your home.

As well as the new trailer, our Tearooms menu has been revamped and offers a delicious selection of lunches, cakes, snacks and afternoon tea. A fantastic range of coffees, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are also available; adding a glass of prosecco to your afternoon tea will make the perfect treat or gift. The Tearooms will be open seven days a week from 9am.

Things to do at Easter

After we open our gates for 2018, we’ll be offering some fantastic family activities for the Easter break. From Friday 30th March to Monday 2nd April, you can enjoy arts and crafts, Easter trails and more around our grounds – perfect for keeping the whole family entertained. Find our more on our events page.

Great days out

Of course, while we’ve spent time ensuring our visitor areas offer the best possible experience, we’ve kept many of your favourite spots unchanged. Our beautiful Walled Gardens are showing signs of life, with leaves beginning to form and some early flowers already in bloom. The castle itself still boasts plenty of history to explore, while the Deer Park is filled with wildlife including our herds of stunning Red deer and the smaller Fallow deer.

Over the coming months and years, we’re planning to open up even more of the Raby estate to the public, sharing its long history and the wonderful heritage it offers. Keep checking our website for the latest news – and make sure you pay us a visit to find out what’s new.
