As well as the day-to-day activities at Raby Castle, we like to play our part in the community by hosting other events.
In 2018, there are some fantastic events to look out for through the year, with something to suit just about everyone. Why not pop some of these dates in your diary?
Easter Family Fun
From Friday 30th March to Monday 2nd April, we'll be organising some great activities for families. Join us for an Easter trail, seasonal crafts and much more.
The trails and giant outdoor games will be on site throughout the school holidays, so call in any time to join in the fun. It's all free when you buy a ticket for the Walled Gardens, Deer Park or Castle.
We're pleased to welcome back the County Durham Federation of Young Farmers Clubs for their annual pleasure ride on Sunday 29th April. There are two options for riders – a 5-mile route and a 10-mile – but both are almost entirely off road, across peaceful private land with almost no traffic and spectacular views.
Non-members are welcome to join the rides for £20 and there is plenty of parking for horse boxes. You can pay on the day – simply arrive ready to set off between 10am and noon. Why not call in for lunch at our newly-refurbished Tearooms afterwards?
The arrival of May sees the return of the ever-popular Orchid Show at Raby Castle. As well as seeing some unusual and exotic species, you'll have chance to speak to experts and ask questions.
We'll have representatives from the North East of England and Darlington Orchid Societies on hand across both days (Sunday 6th to Monday 7th May). Entry to the show is included in your ticket for the parks and gardens.
Our Tearooms will be offering afternoon tea on both days, which you can book in advance to guarantee your table. Enjoy our selection of delicious sandwiches, cakes and more in this stunning setting.
Teesside Athletics Club is returning once again for its annual 10k race around the park on Sunday 20th May. For less ambitious runners, there are 5k and 3k fun runs – and youngsters can join in with the 1.2k children's run.
Whichever distance you choose, you'll be running through the beautiful surroundings of Raby Park, which looks particularly stunning at this time of year. The club recommends booking in advance to keep things running smoothly on the day.
Once you’ve crossed the finishing line, head straight to our Tearooms for a delicious brunch – there’s nothing better than a hot bacon sandwich or fresh avocado on toast to replenish your energy levels!
Flower Power Plant & Gift Fair
On Sunday 27th May, Flower Power Fairs return to Raby Castle with stalls held by specialist nurseries and gift suppliers. Take inspiration from our Walled Gardens before you choose plants for your own garden!
While you're here, pick up lovely gifts, jewellery, photography and more from some of the best local small businesses. Entry to the fair is included in tickets for the parks and gardens, and once again our Tearooms will be serving afternoon tea – why not book a table for a treat before you go home? You can even add a glass of fizz to make it extra special!
Classic Cars in the Park for Father's Day
Why not bring your dad – and the whole family – to celebrate the best of classic vehicles on Sunday 17th June? We'll have everything from cars and bikes to tractors all displayed in a new area next to the Castle.
As well as the vehicles around the park, we'll have an arena with displays and commentary throughout the day. You can even pick up a bargain in the auto jumble! If you can't join us on Father's Day, we'll be running another Classic Cars in the Park on Sunday 12th August.
Don’t forget, our Tearooms will be open all day and serving everything from breakfast baps to hot and cold lunches. Why not treat your dad to afternoon tea while you’re here?
National Garden Scheme Open Day
Join us as we open our gates for charity on Saturday 14th July. We'll be donating all proceeds from admission to the Gardens to the National Garden Scheme, which supports numerous valuable charities.
The Gardens here at Raby Castle were among the first to be opened for the scheme when it first ran in 1927 and will be opening again in 2018. The NGS is one of the most significant supporters of nursing charities in the UK, donating more than £50m since it was founded.
The arrival of The Handlebards with their unique form of travelling theatre is always a highlight of the summer. This year, they're bringing Twelfth Night to Raby Park on Friday 10th August.
Bring your garden chair or blanket, pack a picnic and join us in the Walled Gardens for a night of inspiring entertainment. Our Tearooms will also be offering packed lunches which you can pre-order and collect on the night to enjoy with your friends and family.
