Christmas at Raby Castle will be bigger than ever this year with appearances by Santa’s real reindeer, Elvis the Shetland pony and an opportunity for children to enjoy breakfast pancakes cooked to Mrs Claus’s special recipe before joining Father Christmas for fireside stories.
Adults can experience the castle at Christmas too thanks to an exclusive afternoon tea event which will be hosted in the Grand Entrance Hall where the roaring fire and huge tree will recreate the festive atmosphere of days gone by. There will also be a chance to glimpse some of the castle rooms all decorated for Christmas. This event is suitable for group bookings and will make a wonderful Christmas celebration for excursions and work colleagues looking for a more unique Christmas party this year.
Father Christmas will be returning to his fireside chair in the castle’s Grand Entrance Hall this December to entertain children with stories and songs.
Having enjoyed last year’s visit so much he will be bringing Mrs Claus along with him to make her speciality breakfasts of warm fluffy pancakes or her favourite gingerbread muffins for a special children’s high tea. She might even have some furry companions to help the day feel even more special.
Fireside Stories with Father Christmas sold out quickly last year so we have added extra dates, including after school and the option to include breakfast or high tea as part of the visit.
Christmas at Raby Castle will be a magical experience for families with lots of treats for both adults and children plus a range of indoor crafts and activities to entertain excited visitors.
The Raby Gift Shop will be brimming with unusual gifts and stunning decorations in the run up to the festive season and will be open daily from 9am along with the Tearooms, which will be serving seasonal snacks, lunches, cakes and festive afternoon tea. A Christmas shopping event will be hosted in early November for those wanting their gifts and decorations to have a bit of castle magic this year.
Throughout December, Christmas trees grown locally on the Raby Estate will be on sale along with a selection of handmade wreaths and decorative foliage. Elvis the Shetland pony will even help you choose your tree on selected dates and help you take it back to the car! Christmas craft workshops, bookable in advance, will run on selected dates throughout December and will include wreath making, willow crafts and willow reindeer making.
A Christmas market will take place on 8 and 9 December with market stalls, crafts, activities and real reindeer for the children to see.
