This week the raspberries are ripening and we’re letting you pick your own!
The Gardens at Raby are coming to their best at this time of year, with the Rose beds in full bloom and the herbaceous borders providing bright bursts of colour in amongst lush greenery – to see recent images of the Gardens, go to The Gallery pages. Probably the most exciting plant coming to its best are the three raspberry canes which span the Western Wall of the West Lawn.
The lovely sweet pink berries are just starting to become ripe this week, but we’ve too many to be able to pick them all ourselves. The gardeners are kept constantly busy with grass cutting, weeding and edging at this time of year. Their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, we receive many complimentary comments from visitors about how lovely and tidy and gardens look, but it leaves very little time to pick all the fruit produced, that once fed the busy kitchens in the Castle.
So we’re leaving it up to you, our visitors, to come and pick the raspberries for us! Empty punnets are available from the Gift Shop at just £2 each, for you to go and fill with as many raspberries as you can squeeze in, straight from the bush! (Normal admission charges to the Park & Gardens apply)
