With so much to see in the Walled Garden during the summer months we have decided to open the park and gardens daily from 9am.
Starting from 5th June, the Walled Garden and Park will now be open throughout the week, including Monday and Tuesday. Park and Gardens admission will apply and tickets can be purchased in the Gift Shop.
Our Tearooms, Gift Shop and Woodland Play Area are also open every day from 9am which means visitors can enjoy morning coffee or brunch before exploring the gardens or call in for lunch or afternoon tea later in the day. We also offer bike hire and this is a great way to see the grounds.
The beds and borders in the Walled Garden are constantly changing at this time of year and regular visitors may want to consider an annual pass which offers unlimited admission. These can be bought in the Gift Shop or online.
Designed by Thomas Wright in the 18th Century, features include a White Ischia Fig, which was brought to Raby by William Harry, then Lord Barnard, in 1786.
The main herbaceous border lies in the East Garden. This area was designed by the Dowager Lady Barnard and visitors will discover some beautiful specimen trees including a Tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipafera) and Wedding Day Rose.
Among the most striking original features are the structural yew hedges which add real character to the gardens.
There is still a Kitchen Garden within the West Garden where there are also shrub borders and nurseries. Look out for the Gothic cottage orné designed by James Paine.
Visitors can also explore the conservatory, ornamental pond area, rose gardens and informal heather and conifer garden.
